Hanitizer

Working in an elementary can be very hazardous to ones health, and so we now have alcohol based sanitizers for a quick germ killer. Anyone who's ever spent any time in a school knows that this stuff is everywhere. I've even seen it in hallways for your convenience.

When something becomes this common place it enters into ones vocabulary early on in life. Today, while working in our afterschool program I discovered how common place hand sanitizer had become when a child in pre-K asked me, "Do you want some hanitizer?"

I love the English language!!

Carried Off in Handcuffs

Today I had to witness a child being carried off in handcuffs! Being on the Crisis Response Team at school I had to be "hands-on" with the situation.

I have discovered that there is nothing more emotionally wrenching that watching a child be put in handcuffs and put into a police car. What these kids are put through at home is horrific. Growing up was not an easy time for me, but I cannot imagine what some of these kids are put through.

What can I possily do...

I Don't Know How to Pee With My Pants Down!!

Most everyday is an interesting day in first grade. Being a male teacher has its certain advantages, and one of those advantages is being able to use the student restroom instead of having to walk all the way down to the teacher's restroom.

This also helps me keep an eye on any misbehavior that goes on in the restroom and it provides the opportunity for me to hear some interesting things! Most recently I was doing what I came to do and all of the sudden a hear a boy cry out, "I don't know how to pee with my pants down!"

Reacting as quickly as possible I made sure everything was alright with the student concerned that there may be a problem. It wasn't until later that what he had said really sank in! He stated that everything was alright and it occurred to me that maybe I should've stuck around and made sure everything came out alright!
